der Moderne

September 2002 mark the opening of one
of the world's largest museums for visual art of the 19th
and 20th century – in Munich. With a total exhibition
area of over 12,000 sq. m., the Pinakothek der Moderne for
the first time brings together four major collections under
one roof. Designed by Stephan Braunfels, the building stands
out for its open and spacious architecture, creating a wealth
of different links and repeatedly offering visitors new and
surprising insights.
Visitors to the museum will be able to enjoy viewing modern
paintings, sculptures, video installations, photographs, drawings,
architectural models and design items in a museum on a scale
with the Centre Pompidou in Paris or the Tate Modern in London.
The Pinakothek der Moderne deliberately spans different disciplines,
thus fostering the identity of the individual collections
and also presenting them as inter-related parts of a larger
cultural whole.
